Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, Finance Minister, met with Pernille Ironside, UNICEF Pakistan Representative, to strengthen collaboration on child welfare, education and responses to climate and population challenges. The talks focused on coordinated action to reduce child stunting and learning poverty across Pakistan.
The Finance Minister stressed the urgency of addressing child stunting and learning poverty and noted that around two thirds of the World Bank’s USD 2 billion annual support will be directed toward population-related challenges. He highlighted the need to align fiscal and programmatic measures to protect vulnerable children and improve learning outcomes.
Ms. Ironside reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to Pakistan, emphasizing continued support for child care, girls’ education, health services and climate resilience initiatives. She underlined UNICEF’s role in partnering with government agencies to scale interventions that safeguard children’s rights and well-being.
Both sides reiterated their resolve to work together on child welfare and sustainable development goals, aiming for coordinated funding and policies that reduce stunting, expand educational opportunities for girls and build resilience against climate risks that affect children and families across the country.
