Fine Arts Department Inaugurated at Arid University

Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi has expanded its academic offerings by launching a new Department of Fine Arts (Art & Design), signaling a commitment to interdisciplinary education and cultural enrichment on campus.

At the inauguration ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman emphasized the significance of integrating fine arts into an agricultural university setting. He highlighted how artists often use agriculture as a theme to reflect cultural values, recognize natural cycles, and document rural life. According to Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, fine arts contribute both to the celebration of farming communities and the preservation of agricultural heritage, while also raising awareness about environmental and sustainability issues.

The event was attended by university leadership, faculty, and a large number of students, underlining the high level of interest in the new department. Dr. Aneela Afzal, who heads the Department of Fine Arts, expressed her gratitude to all participants and outlined the goals of the new program. She noted that the four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree is structured to foster creative thinking and exposure to various artistic disciplines. The program aims to deepen students’ understanding of multiple cultures, histories, and perspectives, broadening their academic and personal development.

The establishment of the Fine Arts Department represents a significant step for the university towards nurturing holistic education and fostering a vibrant, culturally responsive learning environment.
