Gandhara Museum to Get State of the Art Galleries

Korean experts will draft proposals to upgrade the Gandhara Museum with state-of-the-art galleries, modern displays and video technology after a CDA review.

A meeting at the Capital Development Authority headquarters in Islamabad brought together Korean heritage experts, officers from the Ministry of Culture and Heritage and senior CDA officials to discuss the future of the Gandhara Heritage Museum. The session was chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, and attended by Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch and Member Planning and Design Dr. Khalid Hafiz.

Committee members were informed that the Korean team recently developed a modern heritage gallery inside a museum in Islamabad that has earned strong public appreciation. Chairman Randhawa commended the Korean experts for their work and highlighted the positive public response to the modern gallery.

The meeting focused on plans to develop the Gandhara Heritage and Cultural Centre along contemporary lines. Chairman Randhawa requested the Korean heritage experts to prepare detailed proposals for establishing state-of-the-art galleries at the Gandhara Museum, specifying the use of modern technology, dedicated video galleries and aesthetic improvements to enhance visitor experience.

The Korean specialists will conduct an on-site visit to the Gandhara Heritage and Cultural Centre to assess requirements and submit formal recommendations after the inspection. Officials said the proposals will guide the next steps in upgrading exhibit design and museum infrastructure.

Chairman Randhawa stressed the importance of fully leveraging the Korean team’s expertise to create a world-class Gandhara Museum. The collaboration is intended to combine international conservation know-how with local heritage priorities to raise the cultural and educational profile of the site for Islamabad and the surrounding region.
