GGGI Pakistan meets federal minister to plan climate finance, clean hydrogen and green growth initiatives supporting national net-zero and economic goals.

In Islamabad, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik met with Ms. Laura Jalosjoki, Country Representative for Nepal and Pakistan of the Global Green Growth Institute, to discuss how GGGI Pakistan can support the country’s green growth and climate finance ambitions.

Ms. Laura Jalosjoki briefed the minister on strategic planning approaches that can help Pakistan achieve its economic objectives while building institutional and financial frameworks to access international climate financing. She highlighted GGGI Pakistan’s global experience in aligning sustainable development priorities with economic growth and enhanced climate resilience.

The two sides reviewed the Pakistan Country Program 2024–2028 and explored priority areas for collaboration, including stronger private sector engagement to mobilize climate finance, strengthening agriculture value chains, and improving energy efficiency through AI-enabled Monitoring, Reporting and Verification systems. Conversation also covered investment and market development in agriculture and measures to catalyse innovation through startup ecosystems tailored to Pakistan’s needs.

Discussion included the Global Clean Hydrogen Program currently under consideration for Pakistan. The initiative aims to build hydrogen-related capacity and institutional readiness to support a transition toward net-zero pathways. The program is already operational in nine countries and is estimated to contribute to a global reduction of roughly 2.3 million metric tons of CO2 emissions.

Dr. Musadik Malik welcomed continued engagement with GGGI Pakistan and stressed that all policies and strategies must be grounded in the realities of Pakistan. He underlined the importance of designing locally relevant, practical solutions that align with national development priorities as parties consider next steps in project development and financing.
