Chairman Senate Yusuf Raza Gilani met with senior journalists in Multan and emphasized the importance of national unity, responsible journalism, and collective efforts to address the recent challenges facing Pakistan, including the devastating floods in Punjab and broader issues such as terrorism and economic instability.
During the meeting, Gilani warmly welcomed journalists from all four provinces to Multan, known as the city of saints. He commended their commitment to responsible reporting during difficult times, acknowledging the vital role of the media in society. Gilani recognized the harm caused by fake news and sensationalism, noting that these practices have negatively affected the credibility of the media.
Addressing regional security concerns, Gilani stressed that Pakistan responded only defensively to recent acts of aggression from India, and firmly stated that any attack from India would not be tolerated. He further highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to counter the Indian narrative at international forums, underscoring the country’s diplomatic achievements.
Focusing on internal matters, the Chairman Senate expressed deep concern over the severe damage caused by floods in Punjab. He praised provincial governments, public representatives, the Pakistan Army, administration, and welfare organizations for their ongoing relief efforts. Gilani called on philanthropists, welfare organizations, and the general public to continue stepping forward to support those affected by the floods, asserting that national solidarity and joint action are essential to overcoming the crisis.
Gilani also reaffirmed the Senate’s commitment to legislate for the protection of journalists’ rights, ensuring their safety and ability to report freely. Highlighting the broader challenges facing Pakistan, including terrorism, economic issues, and governance, he pointed to the nation’s resilience and capacity to endure hardships.
Concluding the meeting, Gilani noted that the Anjuman-e-Islamia Multan has been organizing events for Eid Milad-un-Nabi for a hundred years, and that this year, the celebrations are also being held at the official level, reflecting the city’s rich tradition and the broader recognition of this important religious occasion.
