Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima has said that the growing trend of internet use among children has become a global issue and laws at the international level are the need of the hour to protect children from its harmful effects.
Speaking at the “Safe Scroll National Policy Dialogue” programme, the federal minister said children’s interest in the IT sector was continuously increasing across the world.
She said underage children were achieving major milestones in the field of IT, adding that today’s children could not be kept away from information technology. “The more we stop them, the more they will be attracted towards it,” she said.
Shaza Fatima said that to deal with cyber threats, laws were necessary, but society also needed to improve its environment.
She said the government was working with utmost seriousness to address cyber issues in the country.
The minister said the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other government institutions were taking steps for cyber awareness and education.
She stressed the need to train children for the positive use of the internet and to create a sense of responsibility among them.
