Federal minister endorses the Gender Parity Framework to standardize provincial reporting and improve Pakistan's gender data and policymaking.

Federal Minister for Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar affirmed government support for a unified Gender Parity Framework at the National Consultation organized by the National Commission on the Status of Women. Over two days, provincial and regional representatives shared indicators and reports that mapped existing capacity and commitment across the country, helping shape a standardized reporting mechanism for provincial parity reporting.

The consultation brought together provinces, regions, development partners, civil society and academia to refine a leaner and comparable approach to parity reporting. Participants worked through technical details and sought alignment so the Gender Parity Framework can function as a national benchmark that allows comparability across provinces and over time.

Senator Tarar stressed that the Framework is intended as a reporting mechanism rather than a catalogue of aspirations, and that better data collection and consistent reporting will produce a more accurate picture of Pakistan’s progress. He said international rankings often reflect gaps in reporting and underscored the need for credible, consistent data to inform policy on education, health, work and leadership for women.

The Minister reiterated the government’s constitutional responsibilities and international commitments, and pledged the Ministry of Human Rights will support integrating the Gender Parity Framework into laws, policies and institutions. He also reaffirmed the Prime Minister’s commitment to advancing women’s rights and equal participation in all spheres of life.

Stakeholders left the consultation with a clearer, practical reporting mechanism shaped by provincial inputs and expert contributions, with the goal of closing gender gaps and enabling policymakers to target interventions more effectively across Pakistan.
