ISLAMABAD: Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee for breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct during the One-day International tri-series match against England on Sunday.

According to an ICC media release issued on Wednesday, Haris was found to have breached Level 1 of the code after appealing for a wide from the non-striker’s end in the 46th over and arguing with England all-rounder Will Jacks after the appeal was turned down.

The ICC said Haris ignored a warning from on-field umpire Sharfuddoula and continued arguing. He also raised his bat in frustration. The right-arm pacer was also handed one demerit point after being found in breach of Article 2.20 of the Code of Conduct, which relates to “displaying conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game”.

The incident took place during a match in which Haris made a crucial contribution with the bat. His seven off 19 balls, along with Shadab Khan’s century effort, helped Pakistan secure a one-wicket victory. Haris struck the winning run at the end of an 89-run partnership with Shadab after Pakistan had slipped to 154-9 while chasing England’s 242.

The win propelled Pakistan into the series final. This was Haris’s third offence in a 24-month period, taking his overall tally to five demerit points.

Haris accepted the offence and the sanctions proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. As a result, there was no formal hearing, the ICC release said.

Under ICC rules, four or more demerit points accumulated within a 24-month period are converted into two suspension points. This equates to a ban from one Test, two ODIs or two T20Is. Haris had served a two-ODI ban last year following breaches in three Asia Cup matches against India. The bans will be doubled if Haris reaches eight demerit points.

England were also penalised 15 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over rate after being found three overs short of the target at the allocated time.

England captain Harry Brook accepted the offence and the sanction, the ICC said. England failed to qualify for the final after losing their first three matches.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka will contest Saturday’s final in Lahore.
