Federal Health Minister Reviews Flood Response at NIH

Federal health authorities are intensifying efforts to support flood-affected communities across Pakistan, with Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal personally reviewing emergency operations and reaffirming the commitment to delivering uninterrupted healthcare. Concurrently, government officials have acknowledged the role of organizations like Integral Global in advancing key public health projects, particularly in hepatitis elimination and the development of Islamabad as a Model Health City.

Minister Mustafa Kamal visited the Flood Emergency Operations Cell at the National Institute of Health (NIH) to assess ongoing response activities. He was briefed by senior officials, including the Federal Secretary of Health, the CEO of NIH, the Head of WHO Pakistan, and provincial representatives on the challenges and progress in reaching communities impacted by floods. The minister highlighted that the health system remains on high alert, with control rooms operating round-the-clock in all provincial Directorates General of Health to coordinate relief efforts. Provincial governments have also appointed dedicated focal persons to manage health-related flood interventions.

The Ministry of Health, in partnership with the National Disaster Management Authority, provincial administrations, and international partners, is ensuring a coordinated and timely response. Essential medicines and vaccines have already been dispatched to affected regions such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, based on provincial requests. Real-time data on public health threats is being collected by the NIH to monitor disease outbreaks and address emergent needs. Minister Kamal emphasized that all available resources are being mobilized, and the Ministry continues to stand in close collaboration with regional governments to support families impacted by the floods.

In a parallel effort to strengthen Pakistan’s public health system, the Minister of State for National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination, Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath, met with the Integral Global team. He praised their contributions to initiatives like the Prime Minister’s Programme for Hepatitis C Elimination and outlined the Ministry’s vision to transform Islamabad into a Model Health City. The Minister also supported Integral Global’s recommendation to urgently introduce the Hepatitis B birth dose vaccine nationwide. He announced that the Ministry will coordinate with provincial governments to address implementation challenges and develop a joint action plan to ensure the vaccine’s accessibility across the country.

Integral Global shared updates on its ongoing Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programs, which focus on hygiene awareness in underserved communities and schools through direct outreach and community cleanups. The organization’s founder, Nabil Ahmed, reaffirmed Integral Global’s long-term commitment to public health in Pakistan, while senior analyst Jenna Buttolph expressed support for the government’s vision for Islamabad. The Minister of State concluded by highlighting the essential role of public-private partnerships in strengthening the health system and encouraged Integral Global to continue its support as the government works to build healthier, more resilient communities.
