The Faculty of Education at International Islamic University Islamabad observed World Teachers Day at the Fatima Tuz Zahra Block Auditorium on the female campus under the global theme “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession.” The event, organised by the Departments of Educational Leadership & Management and Teacher Education, paid tribute to teachers and aimed to inspire the next generation of educators.
The program opened with a ribbon cutting led by Dr. Tabassum Naz, Director of the National Curriculum Council, Prof. Dr. Amna Mehmood, Incharge Female Campus, and Dr. Azhar Mahmood, Incharge Programs at the Faculty of Education, followed by a recitation of the Holy Quran and the national anthem.
In his welcome address Dr. Azhar Mahmood emphasised the central role of teachers as nation builders and lifelong mentors, saying that contemporary teaching needs collective wisdom rather than isolated effort. He added that “teachers and students thrive when they feel connected and supported as part of a larger learning community.” His remarks highlighted the Faculty of Education’s focus on collaboration and professional support for teachers.
Students paid tribute through speeches and poetry, recognising teachers for their dedication, guidance and role in shaping values. The performances reflected a strong bond between learners and educators and underscored the community spirit promoted by the faculty.
Guest speaker Dr. Tabassum Naz reflected on the lifelong influence of good teachers and urged educators to keep pace with changing learning environments shaped by artificial intelligence and global innovation. She stressed that curriculum and teaching together can create meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for modern challenges.
Prof. Dr. Amna Mehmood shared personal reflections on the transformative power of teaching, noting that “teaching is not merely a profession but one of the strongest means of creating real change in society.” Her remarks emphasised patience, passion and the responsibility teachers carry as embodiments of societal values.
In the vote of thanks Dr. Alina Raza, Incharge Academic Affairs at the Department of Teacher Education, expressed appreciation for the organising committee, faculty members and students whose efforts made the event successful. The acknowledgement reinforced the collaborative spirit the day promoted.
The World Teachers Day celebration at IIUI not only honoured teachers’ contributions but also encouraged students of education to adopt collaboration, innovation and excellence in their careers. The Faculty of Education reaffirmed its commitment to preparing value driven, future ready teachers who can meet Pakistan’s educational needs in a rapidly changing world.
