The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has intensified its efforts to promote environmental sustainability by launching a comprehensive tree plantation campaign as part of its vision for a greener campus. President of IIUI, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, personally participated in the drive by planting a tree in the Administration Block courtyard, underscoring the university’s commitment to environmental responsibility and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Key leaders from the university, including Vice President (Administration & Finance) Prof. Dr. Abdul Raheman, Vice President (Research & Enterprise) Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, and several directors, staff members, and employees across departments, joined the initiative. Members of the horticulture team and employees from both the male and female campuses also took part, highlighting the campaign’s inclusive approach.
During the plantation ceremony, President Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed praised the Directorate of Administration and the Horticulture Section for their meticulous planning and persistent efforts in beautifying and maintaining the university grounds. He expressed gratitude toward the university’s gardeners for their dedicated service, noting how a green campus provides inspiration and fosters a nurturing environment for learning and personal growth.
Emphasizing the significance of tree plantation, the President described the activity as both a prophetic tradition and a service to humanity, aimed at benefitting future generations. He called on the entire university community to contribute actively to environmental stewardship and help transform IIUI into a model of sustainability.
In a demonstration of gender inclusivity, female staff members also planted saplings during the campaign, further reflecting the university’s commitment to engaging all sectors of the IIUI community in climate action and sustainable practices.
Organized under the banner “Save the Environment by Planting a Tree,” the campaign aims to embed environmental responsibility within the university culture and align with global sustainability targets, particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). The ongoing tree plantation drive highlights IIUI’s dedication to environmental awareness, a green lifestyle, and a positive contribution to Pakistan’s ecological future.
