At least 12 people were killed and more than 30 others injured in a devastating explosion at the Islamabad district court on Tuesday, and the injured were rushed to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for emergency care.
Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal visited PIMS Hospital soon after the blast, directing staff to provide the best possible treatment and stressing that saving lives was the top priority. He confirmed that 22 injured patients were being treated at PIMS while two others were transferred to private hospitals at the request of their families, and ordered the disaster ward to be opened to handle any further emergencies.
PIMS spokesperson Dr. Mubashir Daha said 36 injured persons were brought to the hospital following the incident. Eighteen were discharged after receiving first aid, fourteen have been moved to regular wards and four remain in critical condition in intensive care. He added that twelve victims have been identified while two bodies remain unidentified.
Executive Director Dr. Rana Imran Sikandar is personally overseeing the emergency response and has mobilised all available medical resources. Doctors and paramedical staff are working around the clock to treat the injured and manage the surge of patients arriving after the Islamabad court blast.
Among the dead are lawyers and civilians, including advocate Zubair Ghumman, and the injured list includes police personnel such as ASI Irshad of Ramna Police Station, Head Constable Muhammad Imran and Constable Imran Javed of Kohsar Police Station.
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar also visited PIMS to offer condolences and assured families that the government will carry out a comprehensive investigation into the blast. Islamabad Police and local authorities have tightened security around the hospital while relatives gathered outside emergency wards as officials confirmed that all necessary medical facilities and emergency services are being provided without delay.
