ISLAMABAD: The leadership of traders’ associations in Islamabad has announced support for Jamaat-e-Islami’s countrywide movement against the petroleum levy, describing it as a national and public movement.
The announcement was made at a dinner hosted by the Pakistan Business Forum in honour of the trader community. Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Naib Ameer Liaqat Baloch and Jamaat-e-Islami Islamabad Ameer Engineer Nasrullah Randhawa attended the event as special guests.
Leaders of different trade bodies, including the Pakistan Business Forum, Pakistan Traders Alliance, All Pakistan Traders Union, Pakistan Small Industries, Pakistan Computer Association and Fruit and Vegetable Association, addressed the gathering. Among those who spoke were Kashif Chaudhry, Tahir Chaudhry, Tahir Ayub, Awais Satti and Zahid Qureshi.
A large number of representatives of traders’ organisations from various commercial centres of Islamabad, including G-13, G-9, G-11, F-7, G-8, Tarnol, Bhara Kahu, Lehtrar Road, PWD and Aabpara, also participated in the event.
Trader leaders extended full support to the demand for abolition of the petroleum levy and provision of relief to the people. They expressed confidence in the leadership of Hafiz Naeemur Rehman and termed the ongoing movement against the petroleum levy, inflation and IPPs a national movement.
The trader community also announced support for the countrywide strike scheduled for September 3. The participants expressed their resolve to continue a joint struggle for resolving the problems faced by traders, ending the economic crisis and providing relief to the people.
