ISSI Delegation Completes NRTC Visit

ISSI delegation led by Ambassador Khalid Mahmood conducted an NRTC visit to examine indigenous telecom capabilities and strategic defence communications.

On 13 January 2026 an ISSI delegation led by Ambassador Khalid Mahmood, Chairman Board of Governors at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad, carried out an NRTC visit to the National Radio Telecommunication Corporation in Islamabad to study Pakistan’s indigenous radio and telecommunication capabilities with an emphasis on innovation and self-reliance.

In his remarks Ambassador Khalid Mahmood praised NRTC’s sustained efforts to advance local technological capacity and highlighted that secure, resilient and indigenous communication systems are a vital pillar of national security, enabling effective command, control and informed strategic decision-making.

Brigadier Azmat Shabbir, Managing Director of NRTC, provided a comprehensive overview of the organisation’s mandate, core functions and ongoing projects, outlining the corporation’s contributions to both defence and civilian communication infrastructure while noting emerging technological trends and challenges facing the telecom sector and future directions for innovation.

The delegation’s NRTC visit concluded with an exchange of mementos and mutual appreciation, signalling a shared commitment to continued engagement in support of Pakistan’s strategic and technological advancement through cooperation on indigenous technology, self-reliance and enhanced defence communications.
