**CPDI Holds Training for Local Jirga Members in Nowshera to Address Violence Against Women**
The Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives (CPDI), in collaboration with The Asia Foundation and under the Justice Sector Support Program, organized a two-day training workshop for local Jirga members in District Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The initiative aimed to equip participants with essential skills and knowledge to effectively address cases of violence against women within their communities.
The training session focused on enhancing participants’ understanding of legal rights, fostering gender sensitivity, and promoting effective community-based conflict resolution strategies. By doing so, the program sought to encourage Jirga members to play a more proactive and informed role in safeguarding women’s rights and ensuring justice at the grassroots level.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nowshera, Mr. Saifullah Anjum, attended the event as the chief guest. In his remarks, DSP Anjum emphasized the significant role of Jirgas and Dispute Resolution Committees (DRCs) in alleviating the workload of law enforcement agencies, particularly in cases pertaining to violence against women. He underscored the need for collaboration between community forums and police to create a more responsive justice system.
At the conclusion of the training, certificates were distributed among the participants, recognizing their commitment to promoting legal awareness and gender-sensitive conflict resolution in their communities. The event reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen the capacity of local dispute resolution mechanisms in tackling critical social issues.
