A Kenyan delegation visited Pakistan to discuss collaboration on mango-processing technology and explore trade expansion between the two countries. The delegation from Kenya’s Horticulture Crops Directorate met Chief Executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Mr. Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, to discuss their intent to procure advanced mango-processing machinery and establish a mango treatment facility in Nairobi.

The delegation, led by Ms. Christine Chesaro, officially visited Pakistan to engage in discussions regarding the acquisition of Hot Water Treatment Plants for mango processing, along with other agricultural value-added machinery. Ms. Chesaro shared the interest of the Kenyan government in establishing a Common Processing Facility in Nairobi to enhance mango treatment and processing capabilities.

During their stay, delegates expressed appreciation for TDAP’s assistance in organizing visits to a mango processing plant in Khanewal and a packaging facility in Sargodha. The Kenyan representatives praised the high standards maintained at these Pakistani facilities and the exceptional quality of mango orchards, which strictly adhere to international best agricultural practices.

In his discussions with the Kenyan representatives, TDAP’s Chief Executive Mr. Chadhar emphasized the importance of increasing bilateral trade relations to benefit both economies. He particularly noted that Kenya already constitutes a major export destination for Pakistani rice, calling upon Kenya’s government and private sector to further increase sourcing from Pakistan. Highlighting Pakistan’s substantial importation of Kenyan tea, Mr. Chadhar also pointed out the potential complementarity between the two economies across several industries, including pharmaceuticals, agricultural machinery, engineering goods, textiles, processed foods, and value-added agricultural products.

Referring to Pakistan’s strategic “Look Africa” policy, Mr. Chadhar explained this initiative aims to enhance economic ties and trade volumes between Pakistan and African countries. TDAP has played an instrumental role in promoting this policy by facilitating exports, improving trade relations, and actively promoting African markets as key trade partners for Pakistan.

The Kenyan delegation expressed gratitude and appreciation towards TDAP leadership and the government of Pakistan for prioritizing Africa as an important market, commending TDAP’s proactive approach in strengthening trade relationships with African nations.
