**National Highway & Motorway Police Crack Down on Illegal Encroachments at Sahiwal Bypass**
The National Highway & Motorway Police, acting on directives from senior officials, have launched a significant operation to remove illegal encroachments along the Sahiwal Bypass. The initiative aims to restore the smooth flow of traffic and enhance road safety for commuters, receiving strong support from both motorists and local residents.
The enforcement drive was overseen by DSP Rab Nawaz Bhatti of Beat 15 Sahiwal, under the guidance of Deputy Inspector General Syed Ali Fareed and Sector Commander SSP Atif Shehzad Gujar. The operation was conducted in partnership with the District Council and the National Highway Authority to ensure effective action against those violating highway regulations.
Authorities had previously issued fifteen-day notices to workshop owners located on the eastern side of the Sahiwal Bypass. These notices directed business owners to dismantle illegal structures and refrain from using the highway for vehicle repairs. Despite the warnings, many workshops continued to encroach on the road by extending their activities beyond designated boundaries, utilizing two to three parking spaces per establishment, and placing sheds, platforms, and heavy machinery on the hard shoulder of the road.
In response to continued violations, enforcement teams sealed five workshops and registered police cases against two workshop owners and several drivers found repairing vehicles on the roadside. All unauthorized structures, including sheds and platforms, were demolished, and illegally placed items on the highway were confiscated to prevent future obstruction.
This decisive action has been widely welcomed by the public, who previously experienced significant inconvenience and safety hazards due to the encroachments. The National Highway & Motorway Police’s operation is expected to alleviate congestion and promote safer travel along one of the region’s busiest routes.
