**National Institute of Maritime Affairs Hosts 11th Board of Advisors Meeting in Islamabad**
The National Institute of Maritime Affairs (NIMA) held its 11th Board of Advisors meeting at its head office in Islamabad, bringing together senior maritime leaders and experts to discuss key issues shaping Pakistan’s maritime sector. The session, chaired by Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, Former Chief of the Naval Staff and Chairman of the NIMA Board of Advisors, focused heavily on aligning maritime research with industry priorities and harnessing strategic opportunities for national development.
In his opening address, Admiral Zakaullah highlighted the critical need for research outcomes that are both results-oriented and relevant to the needs of the maritime industry. He praised the dedication of the board members, noting NIMA’s transformation into a leading maritime think tank recognized nationally and internationally. The Admiral also commended the institute’s team and researchers for their outstanding contributions and commitment to advancing maritime knowledge.
Vice Admiral Ahmed Saeed, President of NIMA, welcomed attendees and provided an insightful overview of emerging trends in global geopolitics, the economy, and the strategic maritime environment expected in 2025. His remarks set the stage for Commodore Dr. Baber Bilal Haider, Vice President of NIMA, to present a summary of the institute’s recent research activities, underlining NIMA’s expanding role as a hub for policy-driven maritime studies.
The board engaged in in-depth discussions across a broad spectrum of agenda items. Major topics included national maritime policy, the development of ports and harbors, shipping and ship recycling, and the promotion of maritime tourism. The meeting also addressed opportunities and challenges in offshore hydrocarbon and mineral exploration, fisheries and aquaculture development, responses to climate change, and strategies to combat maritime pollution. The integration of emerging artificial intelligence technologies in the maritime sector was also explored, reflecting a commitment to innovation and modernization.
