Islamabad — December 1, 2025, the National Institute of Maritime Affairs unveiled its new volume ‘South Asia Maritime Security Paradigm’ at a ceremony that brought together leading national and international scholars to examine Maritime Security across the Indian Ocean Region.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed attended as Chief Guest and underscored Pakistan’s maritime potential and the need for ocean-conscious strategic thinking to secure economic and security interests. His remarks reinforced the role of Maritime Security in shaping national policy priorities.

Ambassador Sohail Mahmood, Director General of the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad, delivered the keynote address, placing the publication within the wider strategic discourse on regional stability and prosperity. Outgoing NIMA President Vice Admiral Dr. Ahmed Saeed (Retd) described the book’s genesis and the institute’s continued commitment to raising maritime awareness, while incoming President Rear Admiral Javaid Iqbal thanked contributors, reviewers, and guests. Admiral Aziz Mirza, former Chief of the Naval Staff, attended as Guest of Honour.

The event drew members of the diplomatic corps, senior government officials, academics, think tanks, strategic analysts and maritime professionals, reflecting the cross-sector interest in Maritime Security issues. Contributors address both traditional and non-traditional threats, recent technological advancements, climate imperatives and governance frameworks that are shaping South Asia’s maritime future.

Framed as a landmark contribution, the publication offers lessons for Pakistan and practical insights for policymakers navigating the complex Indo-Pacific security environment. By highlighting policy options and regional trends, the work aims to advance Pakistan’s maritime discourse and support informed decision making on Maritime Security.
