Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan visited the headquarters of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in China, where he met with the bank’s Chief Investment Officer for Global Projects, Konstantin Limitovskiy, to discuss potential investment opportunities in motorway projects, particularly the M6 Sukkur-Hyderabad and the M9 Hyderabad-Karachi routes.

During the meeting held at AIIB’s headquarters, Minister Abdul Aleem Khan emphasized the strategic significance of Pakistan’s motorway network, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure connectivity and ensuring smooth transportation across major urban centers.

Minister Khan specifically presented discussions focused on two critical motorway sections: the M6 motorway linking Sukkur and Hyderabad, and the M9 motorway connecting Hyderabad with Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city and commercial hub. He highlighted that these infrastructure projects are essential for improved trade, economic growth, and regional connectivity, underscoring their potential to attract significant foreign investment.

Konstantin Limitovskiy, AIIB’s Chief Investment Officer for Global Projects, expressed interest in exploring investment opportunities in Pakistan’s motorway projects. He reiterated the bank’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure investment in Asia, expressing willingness to further evaluate the scope, financing strategies, and potential economic impacts of these major transportation projects.

Both parties agreed on continuing collaborative efforts to ensure effective planning, feasibility studies, and subsequent implementation phases. The partnership is anticipated to open the door for substantial international investments and significantly contribute towards Pakistan’s longer-term infrastructure development objectives.
