A decision to fully digitalize the Pakistan Nursing Council was taken during a meeting chaired by Federal Health Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal, with the federal secretary and other senior officials in attendance.
Attendees agreed that all council functions will be computerised as soon as possible to minimize human intervention and ensure merit and transparency. The move towards Nursing digitalization is intended to make administrative processes more efficient and reduce opportunities for error or bias.
The minister emphasised that nursing is the backbone of the health system, noting Pakistan currently faces a shortfall of some 900,000 nurses while the global demand stands at roughly 2.5 million qualified nurses. He underlined the urgency of strengthening the nursing workforce alongside institutional reform.
Syed Mustafa Kamal pledged to rebuild the nursing sector on modern lines, establish the council as an institution meeting international standards and restore its lost credibility through targeted reforms. Officials said Nursing digitalization will be a central tool in achieving these goals by improving transparency and accountability.
Technical steps and a timetable for implementation will be developed by the ministry and the council, with an emphasis on swift rollout to address the pressing workforce gap and raise standards across nursing regulation and oversight.
