FPCCI President and SCO Business Council Vice Chairman Atif Ikram Sheikh termed Pakistan’s SCO presidency a major diplomatic achievement.

President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) and Vice Chairman of the SCO Business Council Atif Ikram Sheikh has said that Pakistan has formally assumed the presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation during the SCO summit today.

In an important statement, Atif Ikram Sheikh said Pakistan’s assumption of the SCO presidency for 2026-27 was a significant diplomatic achievement and reflected confidence in the country’s global and regional role.

He said Pakistan would play an active role through the SCO platform to promote regional trade and economic cooperation. He added that there were vast opportunities to enhance trade, investment and connectivity among SCO member countries.

The FPCCI president said that under Pakistan’s presidency, steps would be taken to make the SCO’s economic agenda more effective and active. He noted that the SCO Business Council was playing an important role in bringing the regional business community closer and increasing mutual investment.

Atif Ikram Sheikh said Pakistan’s SCO presidency was an excellent opportunity to promote peace, stability and shared economic development in the region.

He said Pakistan was keen to further strengthen trade linkages with Central Asia, China, Russia and other SCO countries.

The Vice Chairman of the SCO Business Council said regional connectivity, transit trade and investment were key pillars of economic cooperation under the SCO framework.

He further said that through the platform of the SCO Business Council, efforts would be made to create new business opportunities for Pakistani traders and industrialists.
