The Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr. Musadik Malik, led Pakistan’s delegation to the Seventh Session of the United Nations Environment Assembly in Nairobi, convened under the theme “Advancing sustainable solutions for a resilient planet”. The high-level forum brought together representatives from all 193 UN Member States, civil society, scientific experts, development partners and the private sector to negotiate global policies and set strategic priorities for environmental governance.
Dr. Musadik Malik delivered a blunt appeal to fellow delegates: “Climate action is no longer a choice, it is a necessity. Nature will continue on its course. If we commit injustice against nature, nature will not care. It is we who will ultimately pay the price.”
He highlighted the growing vulnerabilities of climate-impacted countries such as Pakistan and stressed the urgent need for robust adaptation measures, resilience-building and equitable climate financing. Without decisive and united global efforts, he warned, developing countries will continue to face disproportionate human, economic and ecological losses. At UNEA-7 Pakistan pressed for science-based solutions and stronger global financing to support adaptation and recovery.
Dr. Malik reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to work closely with the international community to advance effective solutions and to strengthen multilateral environmental governance. His interventions underscored the importance of cooperation, mobilizing resources and translating scientific evidence into concrete policy actions that protect vulnerable communities.
The minister’s participation in Nairobi reinforces Islamabad’s focus on resilience and adaptation as central to national climate strategy, with Pakistan seeking sustained international support to implement measures that reduce risk and safeguard livelihoods.
