A joint training workshop organized by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has successfully trained 50 faculty members as Program Evaluators, aimed at advancing Outcome-Based Education (OBE) standards across Pakistani universities.
The four-day long training sessions provided an extensive overview and practical guidance on Outcome-Based Education standards, preparing faculty members from various universities to effectively assess and enhance engineering programs’ quality. The event was jointly coordinated by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amir, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at IIUI, and Engr. Haider Abbas, representing the Pakistan Engineering Council.
Notable experts conducted technical sessions throughout the workshop. Leading resource persons included Prof. Dr. Inayatullah Babar, Vice Chancellor of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila; Prof. Dr. Imtiaz Taj from the Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST); and Prof. Dr. Naveed Ramzan from UET Lahore. Through their expert guidance, trainees gained valuable insights and hands-on skills required for effective evaluation of engineering academic programs.
Highlighting the importance of rigorous education standards during his opening-day address, PEC Chairman Engr. Najeeb Haroon emphasized the critical role that trained evaluators play in sustaining quality engineering education and accreditation practices across Pakistan. He encouraged participants to utilize these newly acquired skills to help strengthen the nation’s engineering education programs.
The practical component of the workshop included mock evaluations of IIUI’s Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering programs, allowing participants to perform document reviews, interact with faculty and students, and evaluate laboratory facilities. This hands-on approach offered realistic exposure to program evaluation processes.
At the conclusion of the event, PEC extended special gratitude to IIUI’s leadership, particularly appreciating Vice President (Research & Enterprise) Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed for his support and encouragement in arranging the successful event.
