PEIRA launches Dyslexia Awareness drive in Islamabad schools, focusing on early screening, teacher training and remedial support for inclusive education.

The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) held a focused meeting in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah to advance Dyslexia Awareness and promote inclusive education across private schools in the Islamabad Capital Territory.

Senior officers of PEIRA discussed the academic and social challenges faced by students with dyslexia and underlined the need for structured institutional mechanisms within schools to support learners with diverse needs. The conversation emphasized that early identification and timely intervention are central to ensuring equitable access to education.

Participants agreed that raising Dyslexia Awareness among school communities is essential, and that teachers must be equipped to carry out early screening and adapt classroom and assessment strategies for affected students. PEIRA plans to organize seminars and orientation sessions for school principals, teachers and parents to improve understanding and to counter misconceptions about learning difficulties.

To build capacity within schools, the Authority will encourage private educational institutions to recruit qualified remedial therapists and will initiate training for selected teachers as Master Trainers for learning support. These steps aim to create a pool of certified remedial therapists and sustainable in-house support systems for continuous professional development and effective classroom support for dyslexic learners.

PEIRA will also work with education experts, stakeholders and representatives of educational institutions to develop a coordinated framework for dyslexia management and inclusive education practices across ICT. The coordinated approach is intended to align school-level interventions with regulatory standards and international best practices.

Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah stressed that early diagnosis, teacher training and parental awareness are critical to supporting students with dyslexia and that inclusive education remains a fundamental pillar for equitable quality education. He reiterated PEIRA’s commitment to creating a supportive and enabling learning environment in Islamabad’s private schools so that no child is left behind.
