The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has successfully completed a three-day training program in Quetta for prison staff from Balochistan, focusing on boosting communication and interpersonal skills. The initiative is part of the EU-funded Deliver Justice Project and aims to strengthen the capabilities and professionalism of those working in the province’s correctional facilities.
A total of 22 staff members, including one female officer, from Balochistan’s prison department participated in the training. The sessions covered crucial topics such as active listening, conflict resolution, and effective professional communication. By equipping staff with these essential skills, the training seeks to improve workplace culture within prisons and contribute to a more secure and humane environment for both employees and inmates.
This effort reflects ongoing collaboration between the UNODC and the Balochistan Prison Department, aligning with international standards like the Nelson Mandela Rules, which set guidelines for the fair and humane treatment of prisoners. Through such programs, the UNODC aims to promote safer correctional systems and support justice reform initiatives across the region.
