Private Schools Network Islamabad elects new Highway Zone team to boost grassroots representation and address issues facing low-income private schools.

Private Schools Network Islamabad, a national democratic movement representing low-income private educational institutions for nearly three decades, held the 13th Highway Zone election ceremony where new zonal leadership was announced. Founder and central president Dr Muhammad Afzal Babar said the presence of the PSN central secretariat in the Highway Zone is a distinct honour and urged the zone to become a model for all other zones.

Dr Babar recalled the network’s role in organising three national roundtable conferences that helped advance the private education sector and said the organisation will continue engaging with regulatory bodies such as PERRA, the Federal Board, the Federal Directorate of Education and other government departments to resolve outstanding issues affecting schools and teachers.

Central General Secretary Maqbool Hussain Dar explained that the Highway Zone has been divided into two administrative subzones to establish a more coordinated grassroots communication system. He administered the oath to the newly elected zonal officers, underlining the need for stronger local outreach and accountability.

The election, supervised by central vice president and election commissioner Haji Abdulnadeem Mughal, was conducted by open ballot. Mahmood Hussain Rafi was elected zonal president unopposed while Syed Sajjad Hussain was chosen as general secretary. Other elected office-bearers include vice president (male) Amir Shehzad, vice president (female) Maimoona Shafiq, finance secretary Tayyab Shehzad, sports secretary Adeel Abbasi, information secretary Dr Noman Saeed, co-curricular activities secretary Sidra Al-Muntahi, coordinator New Abadi Azhar Rasool, coordinator Iqbal Town Mudassir Iqbal and coordinator Zia Masjid Muhammad Rizwan.

Leaders at the event stressed that the newly elected team will focus on strengthening representation for low-income private schools, improving coordination at the grassroots level and working collaboratively with education authorities to address regulatory and operational challenges across Islamabad.
