A high-level delegation from the Government of Punjab led by Mr. Zeeshan Rafique, Minister for Local Government and Community Development, visited ANDRITZ Hydro GmbH in Germany to review emerging waste to energy technologies.
Dr. Naeem Rauf, Chairman Planning & Development Board Punjab, joined the delegation as officials engaged ANDRITZ Hydro experts in discussions on potential collaboration to develop sustainable energy initiatives and promote clean, green solutions across Punjab.
The visit, supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and GIZ, featured detailed briefings on ANDRITZ Hydro’s systems for waste conversion, emission control and carbon credit optimization, with an emphasis on technologies that could be adapted to provincial conditions.
Delegates examined technical and policy pathways to translate the briefings into practical projects, exploring avenues for technology transfer, capacity building and pilot schemes that integrate waste to energy solutions into local waste management and energy planning.
Officials noted that responsibly implemented waste to energy systems can help reduce landfill pressure, cut emissions and create sustainable energy streams for Punjab’s municipalities, aligning with the province’s goals for cleaner urban development and greener energy alternatives.
