A delegation from the Punjab Planning & Development Board led by Ms. Nadia Shafique, Senior Chief Environment, spent five days in a GIZ-facilitated knowledge exchange with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa officials aimed at deepening Punjab KPK cooperation on climate and environmental management.
During meetings with the Additional Chief Secretary KPK and the Secretary of the P&D Department KPK, provincial authorities outlined recent flood impacts, glacial melt concerns and shifting climate patterns affecting northern districts. The Punjab team presented its major environmental initiatives including the Smog Related & Sectoral Action Plan, the zig-zag brick kiln conversion programme, incentives to reduce stubble burning, enhanced air-quality monitoring systems and tougher enforcement against open waste burning.
The delegation also met Deputy Commissioner Swat Saleem Jan Marwat, who described district-level rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations carried out during recent floods and the ongoing needs for recovery. Both sides agreed to expand technical collaboration and institutional partnerships to build climate resilience, share best practices and coordinate responses to extreme weather events, reinforcing a practical framework for sustained Punjab KPK cooperation.
