Police pursue suspects after Qazi Nisar attack in Gilgit; injured taken to hospital and investigations underway under directives of IGP Gilgit Baltistan.

Unknown armed assailants opened fire today near CPO Chowk in Gilgit, targeting the central leader of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat Gilgit-Baltistan, Qazi Nisar Ahmad. The incident left four police personnel, including a civilian driver, wounded while the religious leader escaped without life-threatening injuries.

Security officers on duty responded immediately with professional restraint and returned fire. Police sources say several attackers were wounded in the exchange but managed to flee with assistance from accomplices. All wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital where their condition is reported stable.

Under clear instructions from the Inspector General of Police Gilgit Baltistan, local police have launched comprehensive operations to identify and apprehend those responsible for the Qazi Nisar attack. Investigators have seized two vehicles believed to be used in the incident and collected key evidence that officials describe as important to the ongoing probe.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ishaq Hussain appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid spreading rumours and promptly report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. Authorities reiterated that public cooperation is essential for dismantling such networks and ensuring community safety.

Gilgit Baltistan Police say they remain fully mobilised and are pursuing a coordinated strategy to bring the perpetrators of the Qazi Nisar attack to justice as investigations continue.
