The Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges of the National Assembly has formed a sub committee to examine proposed rules amendments moved by Syed Rafiullah, MNA, in Rules 2, 43 sub rule 4 and 247, along with the proposed insertion of a new rule after Rule 39B of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.
The decision came during the 16th meeting of the Standing Committee, held at Parliament House in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Mr. Muhammad Afzal, MNA. After detailed discussion, the committee assigned the sub committee, convened by Mr. Azhar Qayyum Nahra, MNA, to review the proposals in detail and submit its report within thirty days for final consideration.
The committee also took up a question of privilege raised by Ms. Shagufta Jumani, MNA, against the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Pakistan International Airlines over the non-issuance of boarding passes to her family members for a confirmed flight from Jeddah to Karachi. Following deliberations, the committee directed that a letter be sent to the incumbent CEO of PIA to seek a comprehensive inquiry into the matter and appropriate action against the officials responsible.
In the same sitting, the committee deferred the questions of privilege moved by Dr. Darshan and Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan, MNAs. It also postponed consideration of the amendments moved by Dr. Nafisa Shah, MNA, and decided to take up the matter in the next meeting.
Members attending the meeting included MNAs Mr. Nasir Iqbal Bosal, Mr. Waseem Qadir, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasar, Pir Syed Fazal Ali Shah Jillani, Mr. Zulfiqar Bachani, Mir Ghulam Ali Talpur, Ms. Shagufta Jumani, Ms. Naeema Kishwer Khan and Ch. Naseer Ahmed Abbas, who joined online. Syed Rafiullah and Dr. Nafisa Shah also attended as movers, with Dr. Nafisa Shah participating online.
Senior officers from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Law and Justice, Establishment Division, Capital Development Authority and Pakistan International Airlines were also present during the meeting.
