**Senators Assure Journalists of Accountability in Tariq Work Incident as Rawalpindi Police Remain Unpunished**
Key members of Pakistan’s Senate have pledged concrete action in the controversial Tariq Work case, following a meeting with senior journalists who criticized the lack of disciplinary measures against Rawalpindi police officials involved in the incident. A delegation from the Pakistan Reporters Association (PRA) met separately with Senators Irfan Siddiqui, Barrister Ali Zafar, and Sherry Rehman to press their demands for swift action. PRA representatives briefed the lawmakers on the details of the case, highlighting what they described as inaction on the part of authorities, even as public outcry intensifies.
During the discussions, Senator Irfan Siddiqui called on journalists to remain engaged in Senate proceedings and assured them that the matter would be fully pursued. He confirmed that the case had already been sent to the Chairman of the Senate Committee to initiate further inquiry.
Barrister Ali Zafar outlined the parliamentary process moving forward, noting that a meeting of the Senate Information Committee would be scheduled pending the Chairman’s formal ruling. He insisted that responsible Rawalpindi police officers would be summoned to answer for their actions, emphasizing that accountability cannot be avoided.
Senator Sherry Rehman lent her support to the journalists, stressing that their demands are justified and reaffirming that the issue would be addressed without compromise.
These high-profile meetings underscore increasing legislative and institutional support for press freedom, as lawmakers call for greater transparency and responsibility from law enforcement agencies in their interactions with the media.
