Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, announced that the Sindh Government will transfer ownership of newly built houses for 2.1 million families affected by the 2022 floods directly to women. He emphasized that this move is inspired by the vision of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, and aims to empower women by strengthening their financial security and granting them valuable assets.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made the announcement during his visit to the village of Rahooja in Taluka Ratodero, where he distributed ownership certificates to the new homeowners. Accompanied by PPP Women Wing Central President Faryal Talpur and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Bilawal congratulated the women and their families, expressing pride in fulfilling the party’s promise to the flood victims.

Addressing the beneficiaries, he highlighted that these houses are not just shelters but investments that will grow in value over time. He encouraged the women to safeguard their new assets, assuring them that, as homeowners, their rights would be protected. Bilawal reiterated the PPP’s commitment to advancing the legacy of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, particularly her slogan of “Roti, Kapra Aur Makan” (bread, clothing, and shelter), by specifically placing the homes in women’s names to promote equal opportunities and economic stability.

Bilawal praised the Sindh Government’s efforts in constructing the houses and outlined additional plans to install solar energy systems to provide electricity for these homes, alongside implementing sanitation and wash facilities for the residents. During his visit, he engaged with villagers, discussing the economic conditions of the community and the educational needs of their children.

Officials from the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) and the Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) briefed Bilawal on the project’s progress. In Larkana district alone, construction has started on 90,000 out of the planned 122,000 houses. The Sindh Government is also distributing solar kits, which include bulbs, fans, inverters, batteries, and cables, to thousands of families in need, with distributions based on the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) survey.

The event was attended by PPP leaders, assembly members, party workers, and local government representatives, reflecting broad support for the initiative aimed at empowering women and rebuilding the lives of flood-affected families.
