Standing Committee defers consideration of the Railways Bill until Pakistan People's Party members attend; meeting adjourned in Islamabad.

A requisitioned meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Railways convened at Parliament House in Islamabad on October 1, 2025. Mr. Waseem Qadir, MNA presided over the session in the absence of the Committee Chairman, invoking sub-rule (2) of Rule 216 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007.

The agenda included consideration of The Transfer of Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Committee members noted that key representatives from the Pakistan People’s Party were not present and agreed it would be appropriate to defer detailed discussion of the Railways Bill until PPP members could attend a subsequent meeting. Consequently, the Committee adjourned without taking up the Bill.

Attending MNAs included Ibrar Ahmed, Haji Jamal Shah Kakar, Syed Waseem Hussain, Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui and Muhammad Ilyas Chaudhry, and officers from the Railway Ministry and Pakistan Railways were also present. The Committee secretary recorded the proceedings.

The decision to defer consideration of the Railways Bill highlights the Committee’s emphasis on ensuring cross-party participation in legislative review. Members indicated the matter will be taken up at a later sitting when full representation allows for a comprehensive examination.
