A United Nations delegation visited Hafizabad in Punjab to assess ongoing flood response efforts, as the UN has allocated $600,000 in emergency funds to support Pakistan’s recovery. The funding is intended to aid the Government of Pakistan and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) as they address the impact of recent floods in the region.
The delegation included Mohamed Yahya, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan, Coco Ushiyama from the World Food Programme Pakistan, and Carlos Geha representing the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Pakistan. During their visit, the team reviewed relief activities and discussed plans to assist affected communities more effectively.
The newly mobilized emergency funds will focus on meeting urgent humanitarian needs, such as food, shelter, and medical supplies for those displaced or impacted by the floods. United Nations personnel emphasized their commitment to coordinating closely with Pakistani authorities to ensure a swift and effective response throughout the flood-affected areas.
