The Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue (IRD) at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) hosted a national workshop focused on empowering youth with skills in dialogue and peacebuilding. The event convened experts from academia, law, policy, and civil society to equip young participants with tools for fostering tolerance, constructive engagement, and peaceful coexistence in society.
Mr. Nasir Farid, Additional Director at IRD, opened the workshop by highlighting the institute’s ongoing commitment to academic and civic initiatives that bridge societal divides through dialogue and research. He emphasized IRD’s dedication to empowering youth as active contributors to national peace and harmony.
Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Muhammad Kashif Irshad, Additional Director General for KP-CVE and Culture Specialist at the National Heritage and Culture Division, stressed the vital role of youth in promoting social cohesion and cultural pluralism. He encouraged young people to act as catalysts for peace within their communities.
Justice Dr. Syed Muhammad Anwar, Judge of the Federal Shariat Court, provided insights on cultivating mutual respect amidst ideological and socio-political diversity. He urged participants to become agents of harmony and ethical leadership, underlining the necessity of mutual understanding in a pluralistic society.
A session led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Ahmad, Chief Executive of the Global Strategic Institute for Sustainable Development, explored the links between sustainable development, effective dialogue, and enduring peace. He advocated for intergenerational and cross-sector collaboration to achieve inclusive progress.
After lunch, Barrister Zafarullah Khan, a former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and experienced legal expert, conducted a practical training on conflict resolution and mediation. His session focused on equipping youth with actionable frameworks to address and resolve conflicts, fostering reconciliation at community levels.
Mr. Saith Usama Chitrali, Managing Director of SEERAHT International, concluded the thematic presentations by introducing creative strategies for youth-led peace advocacy. He encouraged active civic participation and grassroots dialogue to amplify youth voices in peacebuilding efforts.
Among the notable attendees was Sahabzada Qamar-ul-Haq, Mohtamim Jamia Muhammadi Sharif, who praised IRD’s efforts in promoting interfaith harmony and youth engagement. He expressed appreciation for the workshop’s relevance and urged participants to spread the ideals of peace and mutual respect in their communities.
The workshop wrapped up with a certificate distribution ceremony, celebrating the enthusiastic participation of students, young professionals, and civil society members. Attendees expressed appreciation for IRD’s pivotal role in providing a platform for youth to engage in peacebuilding, knowledge sharing, and collaborative dialogue.
