Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) celebrated sportsmanship, inclusivity, and international collaboration by hosting two significant events: the Pak-Korea Taekwondo Training Program’s Uniform Distribution Ceremony and the Prize Distribution Ceremony for the university’s Inter-Departmental and Inter-House Sports Competitions. These events underscore FJWU’s ongoing commitment to promoting athletics, showcasing talent, and cultivating a supportive, inclusive environment for women athletes.
The ceremonies began with a recitation of the Quran, followed by opening remarks from Dr. Tasawar Ejaz, Deputy Director Sports at FJWU. In his welcoming note, Dr. Ejaz emphasized the diverse range of national and international sporting opportunities available for FJWU students, highlighting the institution’s dedication to nurturing athletic excellence and global engagement among its student body.
The prestigious occasion was honored by the presence of Chief Guest Professor Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor of FJWU and recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and Pride of Performance awards. Joining her as the Guest of Honour was Korean Master Dispatcher, Mr. Seong Oh Choi. Key event coordination efforts were undertaken by Dr. Khuram Shahzad, Director Sports, and Deputy Director Sports Dr. Ejaz, reflecting the dedicated teamwork behind the event.
As part of the Pak-Korea Taekwondo Training Program, Taekwondo uniforms and essential training equipment were distributed among student participants. This equipment, generously donated by the World Taekwondo Headquarters and the Korean Embassy in Pakistan, was formally handed over to FJWU during the ceremony. Students performed a dynamic Taekwondo demonstration, showcasing their skills and training outcomes, which was widely applauded by those in attendance.
In the subsequent segment, awards, shields, and certificates were presented to winners of the 2025 Inter-Departmental and Inter-House Sports Competitions. This recognition celebrated the dedication, talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship demonstrated by the students during the competitions.
Additionally, contributions by members of the Sports Committee were duly acknowledged. Those recognized for their significant efforts included Dr. Farhana and Dr. Nazia from the Islamic Studies Department, Ms. Durkhan from the BCA Department, Ms. Sonia from Anthropology, Dr. Adeela Rehman from Sociology, and Ms. Qurat-ul-Ain, the Sports Representative of the Computer Sciences Department.
A particularly inspiring moment came when the university paid special tribute to Ms. Nimra, FJWU’s first special student to represent Pakistan internationally in women’s sports. Nimra competed in the Pak-Australia Women Blind Cricket Tournament and has been selected for Pakistan’s upcoming T20 World Cup training camp. Her exceptional achievements marked a significant milestone for inclusive sports participation at FJWU, symbolizing the university’s commitment to empowering students of all abilities.
Closing the event, Vice Chancellor Dr. Bushra Mirza expressed sincere gratitude to Mr. Seong Oh Choi, the Korean Embassy, and World Taekwondo for their continued support in advancing sports culture and international cooperation within FJWU. Through these collaborative efforts, the university continues to foster an environment of excellence, empowerment, and inclusion within its vibrant sports community.
