In a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for Religious Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, and Turkey’s Religious Affairs Counselor, Dr Abdul Rahman Akosh, both parties discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in religious education, social welfare projects, and related areas.

Highlighting the strong bond of Islamic brotherhood between Pakistan and Turkey, Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf praised the close cooperation and expressed appreciation over the efforts of both countries to strengthen political, economic, religious, and cultural ties. He further acknowledged Turkey’s principled stance on broader issues facing the Muslim Ummah, particularly the plight of oppressed populations in Palestine and Kashmir, as well as Turkey’s firm stance against Islamophobia.

Minister Yousaf termed the appointment of Dr Abdul Rahman Akosh, a Hafiz-e-Quran and an expert in Islamic studies, as Turkey’s Religious Affairs Counselor in Pakistan a commendable step by the Turkish government. He thanked the Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet Foundation) for its humanitarian activities, including distribution of Ramadan packages, Eid-ul-Adha meat distribution, educational support, health assistance, and drinking water project initiatives. Yousaf particularly lauded Turkey’s prominent role and generous assistance to Pakistan during rehabilitation efforts after the devastating earthquake of 2005. Referring to his own experience as District Nazim of Mansehra during that emergency, he noted Turkey’s sincere contributions and commitment were exemplary and memorable.

Minister Yousaf also highlighted the importance of prospective consultation between Turkey and Pakistan regarding a unified moon-sighting mechanism within the Islamic world.

Dr Abdul Rahman Akosh re-emphasized Turkey’s commitment to further expanding cooperation with Pakistan in religious education, health, humanitarian assistance, and welfare projects. He detailed ongoing humanitarian efforts by the Diyanet Foundation, including the daily management of Ramadan aid initiatives, sacrificial meat distribution campaigns, and clean water projects targeted at underprivileged communities. He added that Diyanet also actively provided 1,000 school bags for orphaned children, 100 advanced educational scholarships, and distributed publications related to the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Furthermore, Dr Akosh announced that Turkey’s Fatwa Commission plans to visit Pakistan soon to enhance scholarly exchange by meeting religious scholars and experts. Concluding the meeting, Dr Akosh praised Sardar Muhammad Yousaf’s genuine concern for the issues and challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah, describing his dedication as commendable and worthy of emulation.
