Young leaders in Saif Town mobilised under Youth Leadership activities focused on solid waste management, working with residents to encourage cleaner streets and responsible waste disposal while promoting sustainable community practices.
The implementation of the YLA on Solid Waste Management saw youth-led initiatives that combined awareness-raising with practical steps to reduce litter and improve local hygiene, reinforcing the role of young people as drivers of change in their neighbourhoods.
The Pakistan Youth Leadership Initiative is a three-year project led by the British Council Pakistan in partnership with Education Above All Foundation’s Reach Out to All (ROTA) Programme. The project is being implemented in partnership with the Government of Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, Higher Education Commission, WaterAid Pakistan, UNDP Pakistan, local civil society organisations and public universities.
PYLI aims to train 90,000 youth from universities and communities in Global Citizenship Education, leadership, and Climate Action curriculum, building Youth Leadership skills that help translate learning into tangible improvements in communities such as Saif Town.
Saif Town’s experience demonstrates how coordinated youth action under PYLI can improve public spaces, encourage sustainable habits among citizens and offer a local model for waste management practices that other neighbourhoods across Pakistan can adopt.
