PMAS-AAUR Hosts “Seed to Startup 2025” Expo to Promote Agri-Innovation and Research-Based Entrepreneurship

Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) organized the “Seed to Startup 2025” Entrepreneurship Expo, bringing together researchers, students, policymakers, agri-startups and industry representatives to highlight how modern research in plant breeding, genetics and seed technology can be transformed into viable agribusiness ventures. The event focused on strengthening the link between scientific innovation and practical adoption in Pakistan’s agriculture sector.

The expo was inaugurated by Punjab MPA Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, while Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman, the Registrar, Deans, Directors, faculty members and a large number of students also attended. Keynote speakers included Muhammad Azam Khan, Director General of the Federal Seed Certification & Registration Department, and Aamir Iqbal from Bayer Pvt. Ltd., who underscored the rising importance of seed technology and agribusiness in ensuring sustainable food systems.

Addressing the ceremony, MPA Malik Iftikhar Ahmed stressed that farmers rely on research institutions for innovative ideas and practical solutions. He said that events like this play a crucial role in transferring scientific knowledge to the farming community, while also creating internship and training opportunities for university students.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qamar-uz-Zaman highlighted that quality seed is the foundation of higher productivity and national food security. He emphasized that research institutions and industry must work closely to commercialize innovations, adopt hybrid varieties and introduce modern technologies to counter climate-related challenges. He appreciated the Department of Plant Breeding & Genetics for arranging a highly informative and impactful expo.

The Entrepreneurship Expo also featured panel discussions, exhibitions, awareness sessions and poster presentations, providing young innovators with a platform to present ideas and connect with industry stakeholders.
