Dr Rafey Sher held a high-level meeting in Islamabad with former Caretaker Prime Minister Senator Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar and Senator Ashraf Jatoi to discuss mounting difficulties within the medical community, with special attention to young doctors and foreign medical graduates. He described a deteriorating professional environment marked by regulatory hurdles, limited postgraduate training opportunities, complex licensing processes and unclear career pathways that are driving frustration and accelerating the brain drain from Pakistan.

The senators acknowledged the seriousness of the challenges facing physicians and expressed concern about declining morale in the health sector. They underlined the need for coordinated action and committed to engaging relevant stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and health authorities, to identify practical and sustainable remedies for the issues raised, especially those affecting foreign medical graduates attempting to integrate into the national healthcare system.
Senator Ashraf Jatoi stressed the importance of safeguarding the future of Pakistan’s healthcare services by implementing fair policies, transparent regulations and better planning in medical education and postgraduate training. He assured that the concerns of doctors and foreign medical graduates would be taken forward at appropriate forums to pursue policy-level reforms and clearer licensing pathways.
Dr Rafey Sher welcomed the assurances and urged continued dialogue between policymakers and the medical community to translate commitments into concrete action. He said targeted reforms on licensing, training and career planning are crucial to restore confidence among doctors and stem the outflow of medical talent from Pakistan.
