Ethiopia's Low Carbon Model won acclaim at the Petersberg Dialogue as delegations hailed renewable progress and urged more climate finance and energy security.

At the 2026 Petersberg Climate Dialogue in Berlin on April 21–22, Ethiopia presented its progress in mainstreaming climate resilience and sustainability across sectoral development plans. Delegations praised the country’s Low Carbon Model as an example of how developing economies can align growth with emissions reduction while facing global energy pressures.

Speakers highlighted Ethiopia’s energy mix, with roughly 95% of supply coming from renewable sources, as a forward-looking element of its transition. Delegates noted the government’s measures to promote green mobility and other low-emission initiatives, framing them as practical steps amid a deepening global energy crisis and the urgent need to accelerate the shift to green energy without compromising long-term energy security.

Ethiopia used the platform to press for unlocking additional climate finance, boosting investment flows into Africa and addressing rising debt burdens and other systemic barriers that hinder implementation. The calls for expanded climate finance and investment were presented as essential complements to national strategies and to sustaining the momentum of the Low Carbon Model.

On the sidelines, Ethiopian representatives held productive meetings with key partners to advance preparations for COP32, aiming to translate dialogue outcomes into tangible commitments. Observers in Pakistan and the region can watch these developments for lessons on integrating renewable-heavy energy strategies and mobilising finance to protect growth amid global energy uncertainty.
