Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani received a Belgian royal delegation at Parliament House in Islamabad on 12 May 2026, reaffirming commitments to deepen Pakistan Belgium ties. The visiting delegation included Prince Edouard de Ligne la Trémoïlle and Princess Isabella Orsini, who held constructive talks with parliamentary leadership.
The two sides discussed measures to strengthen bilateral relations through enhanced parliamentary diplomacy and economic cooperation. Chairman Senate Gillani praised Belgium’s support for the GSP Plus status, calling it an important endorsement for Pakistan’s export access to European markets and a foundation for expanding trade ties.
Gillani described Belgium as a key partner in Europe and underlined that Pakistan Belgium ties rest on mutual respect and shared democratic values. He noted that boosting parliamentary contacts would foster greater understanding and pave the way for practical collaboration in trade, investment and legislative exchanges.
Conversations also covered regional developments and Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement for peace, particularly efforts aimed at stabilising the Middle East. The chairman reaffirmed Pakistan’s conviction in resolving disputes through peaceful means and diplomacy, and highlighted how the country responded to recent provocations with restraint and wisdom while its armed forces received international recognition for leadership and bravery.
The Belgian delegation expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s constructive role on global peace issues and welcomed stronger parliamentary and economic ties. Both sides reiterated their resolve to expand cooperation through regular high-level exchanges, joint initiatives and deeper parliamentary dialogue to further consolidate Pakistan Belgium ties.
