Senate Chairman Gilani urges skills training and tourism growth in South Punjab to boost youth employment and hospitality education through institutional cooperation.

Senator Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani addressed the annual convocation of the College of Tourism and Hotel Management South Punjab in Multan and highlighted the need for skills alongside academic degrees. Senate Chairman Gilani said today’s competitive environment rewards practical competence and modern vocational skills as much as formal qualifications.

He congratulated the graduating students on their achievement and paid tribute to teachers and parents for their support and guidance. The Chairman noted that graduates are beginning a promising journey and expressed confidence that their abilities will bring pride to their families, the region and Pakistan internationally.

Emphasizing Pakistan’s tourism potential, he spoke of the country’s natural beauty, rich heritage and distinctive culture. He encouraged youth to explore destinations across the northern areas, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan, and to promote the historical significance of Multan, a living city with roots stretching back some 5,000 years.

Drawing on his experience as Federal Minister for Tourism, Senate Chairman Gilani reflected on how countries with limited natural resources have built resilient economies through tourism. He recalled a recent meeting with the Ambassador of Italy and said thousands of job openings exist but only those with the right skills will benefit.

He proposed stronger collaboration between state institutions and welfare programmes, urging the Benazir Income Support Programme, Bait-ul-Mal and relevant ministries to work closely with educational institutions to scale up skills development. The Chairman also highlighted growing opportunities in information technology across the European Union, Germany and the United States, encouraging Pakistani youth to capitalise on those markets.

The Chairman underlined that nearly sixty percent of Pakistan’s population is young and that empowering this demographic through vocational training and practical education is vital for economic stability and rapid development. He welcomed recent government steps to reduce petroleum prices and expressed hope for further economic improvement.

Senator Gilani also commended Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and the role of civil and military leadership in safeguarding national interests and promoting regional peace. He extended his congratulations to the institution’s administration, faculty, parents and graduating students and wished them success as they enter professional life.
