ISLAMABAD, July 15, 2026: Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has emphasised the importance of Pakistan’s rich Sufi heritage in promoting tolerance, dialogue and social harmony, saying the teachings of Sufi saints continue to offer valuable guidance in addressing contemporary challenges of polarisation and intolerance.
He was addressing the inauguration of the art exhibition “Sufism & Culture” by artists Roomi and Aiman at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad.
The Chairman Senate congratulated PNCA for organising the exhibition and appreciated the artists for highlighting a theme deeply rooted in Pakistan’s spiritual and cultural traditions.
Gilani said Pakistan possessed one of the richest Sufi traditions in the Muslim world, which had profoundly influenced the country’s poetry, music, architecture, languages and folklore. He observed that the enduring message of Sufism promoted respect, compassion and coexistence, values increasingly needed in today’s world.
He said the teachings of Sufi saints reminded humanity that respect was stronger than hatred, dialogue more enduring than confrontation, and coexistence more rewarding than exclusion. He stressed that these timeless principles could help build more peaceful, inclusive and resilient societies.
The Chairman Senate also commended the artistic contributions of Roomi and Aiman, saying their work reflected how Pakistan’s cultural heritage continued to inspire contemporary expression and connect younger generations with enduring spiritual values.
He further appreciated PNCA and all those involved in making the exhibition possible.
The exhibition was attended by artists, cultural figures, diplomats, art enthusiasts and distinguished guests from various walks of life.
