ISLAMABAD: The three-day annual Urs celebrations of the eminent spiritual saint of the subcontinent, Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif, commonly known as Bari Imam Sarkar (RA), formally began in Islamabad.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar inaugurated the Urs after visiting the shrine of Hazrat Bari Imam Sarkar (RA), where he laid a floral wreath at the mausoleum.
On the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Memon, Khadim Darbar Bari Imam Sarkar and Baba Kalu Sarkar Raja Sarfraz Akram, Dr Riaz Shehbaz Janjua, Raja Imtiaz Janjua, Dr Raja Asif Janjua, Malik Iftikhar Ahmed, Shafiquddin, Qari Ubaid ur Rehman Satti, Umar Farooq Quddusi, Syed Bashir Shah, Raja Shehzad Janjua, Dr Haider Janjua, Abdullah Janjua, Raja Mohammad Ayaz, Ihsanul Haq Mian, Colonel Inam Rabbani and General (retd) Abdul Janjua (Sitara-e-Imtiaz), besides officers of the federal and district administrations, political and social figures, religious leaders and a large number of devotees were present.
During his visit to the shrine, the deputy prime minister offered Fateha and special prayers for the safety, progress, prosperity, peace and stability of the country and the nation.
The Urs celebrations will continue for three days from August 15 to August 17, 2026. Thousands of pilgrims and devotees from across the country are expected to participate in the annual event.
During the Urs, spiritual and religious gatherings, Mehfil-e-Naat and Zikr, Quran Khawani, Fateha Khawani and other religious programmes will be held at the shrine and its adjoining areas.
The administration has made special arrangements to facilitate visitors during the Urs. Additional personnel have been deployed for security, while arrangements for monitoring entry and exit points, traffic flow, parking and other related matters in and around the shrine have also been finalised.
Hazrat Bari Imam Sarkar (RA) is regarded among the renowned Sufi saints and spiritual figures of the subcontinent. His shrine is located in Noorpur Shahan area of Islamabad. Every year, devotees from different parts of the country travel to Islamabad to attend his annual Urs.
Pilgrims visit the shrine, offer Fateha and pray for spiritual peace and blessings.
During the Urs, an atmosphere of reverence and devotion will prevail at the shrine, while the relevant institutions will perform their duties to ensure the convenience and security of visitors.
The administration has appealed to citizens and devotees to cooperate with the administration and security personnel during the Urs so that the celebrations may continue peacefully and in an organised manner.
