Rawalpindi : Wasa has initiated a campaign to collect Rs32 million in outstanding dues from defaulters and unauthorized connection holders. Commercial and residential consumers were sent final notices to pay their outstanding amount as soon as possible.
The agency had recovered Rs83 million per month from July to January, and it achieved an 80% recovery rate in the current fiscal year, which was better than the previous year’s 65%.

The final notices were sent to those who had not paid their dues in the past two years. Wasa also disconnected some connections to recover the outstanding amount, forcing defaulters to pay the water bills that had been pending for several years.

The garrison city has 1,412 illegal water connections, and the agency has taken action against them. The official stated that the water charges in the garrison city were lower than those of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Rawalpindi and Chaklala cantonment boards.
Wasa has to run the administrative and maintenance expenses from the water bills since it does not receive direct funding from the government. Domestic consumers were warned, while commercial users had their connections severed.
The managing director of Wasa, Mohammad Tanveer, took note of the illegal water connections and urged the recovery branch to collect the outstanding dues promptly and accelerate the recovery campaign.
Wasa officials stated that they have adopted a modern approach to recover pending bills from consumers and are providing incentives.
Wasa will regularize illegal water connections if the remaining dues and surcharges are paid, but those who fail to make payments, despite installments, will be left without water connections. Officials who perform better will be encouraged, and those who are negligent will face action.
The agency aims to recover every penny of the outstanding amount, but it is not willing to disconnect water connections. The purpose of the campaign is to recover the outstanding amount from defaulters.
