Pakistan Iran Cooperation on Trade Transport and Rail Networks

Iran and Pakistan have pledged to strengthen cooperation in transport, trade, and rail networks, following a high-level meeting between Iranian Minister for Road and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh, and top Pakistani officials in Islamabad. The talks focused on expanding connectivity, enhancing border infrastructure, and promoting economic collaboration between the neighboring countries.

During the meeting, which was attended by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal, and Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, both sides discussed ways to improve road infrastructure, upgrade border crossing points, and facilitate cargo transit. They also emphasized the importance of boosting trade through enhanced rail connections.

The Pakistani ministers reaffirmed their commitment to developing regional linkages, advancing special economic zones, and improving trade routes along the Pakistan-Iran border. They highlighted that closer cooperation in these areas would create significant economic opportunities for both countries.

Representing Iran, Minister Sadegh expressed a strong interest in deepening economic, infrastructural, and transport ties with Pakistan. She noted that improved road and rail links would lead to a substantial increase in bilateral trade. Both parties also agreed on the importance of aligning efforts related to China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Iran’s regional policies to explore new economic prospects.

The meeting was described as a significant step forward, with participants stressing the need for the timely creation of joint working groups and swift implementation of collaborative projects to realize the shared goals of economic growth and regional integration.
