Spain Introduces Affordable Digital Nomad Visa for Pakistanis
Spain has introduced a Digital Nomad Visa, offering Pakistani remote workers an accessible pathway to live and work in Europe. With an application fee of just Rs21,500, the new visa program aims to attract freelancers, remote professionals, and entrepreneurs who primarily work for non-Spanish companies, providing an appealing option for those seeking opportunities abroad.
Designed under Spain’s Startup Act, the Digital Nomad Visa is intended to support the country’s growing digital economy by bringing in global talent. The visa is initially granted for one year and can be extended for up to five years. Its affordability and flexibility make it especially attractive for Pakistani citizens, including families, as dependents are allowed to apply alongside the primary applicant.
Key benefits of the Spanish Digital Nomad Visa include the option to extend residency, the ability to apply from either Pakistan or while in Spain on a tourist visa, and no requirement to secure a job within Spain. Applicants can continue working for international employers, making it an ideal choice for those with established remote careers.
Eligibility criteria for Pakistani applicants include a minimum income of €2,762 per month (around PKR 856,000). For those applying with a spouse, the required income is €3,797 per month, with an additional €346 per month needed for each child. Candidates must also show proof of at least three months working remotely, that their employer or business has been operational for over one year, and possess either a university degree or three years of relevant work experience. A clean criminal record, health insurance with international coverage, and apostilled certification of background checks are mandatory.
To complete the application process, Pakistanis must gather several documents, including a valid passport, proof of remote work, employer or business registration, income evidence such as payslips or bank statements, a detailed CV, and health insurance. Entrepreneurs must also provide ownership documentation and tax returns. All supporting documents must be officially translated into Spanish and, where necessary, apostilled to meet Spanish government requirements.
For many Pakistani remote professionals, the launch of this visa represents a significant opportunity to access high living standards and increased mobility across the Schengen Area. The standard visa processing time is typically between 20 and 45 days, and no knowledge of Spanish is required.
With Spain opening its doors to digital talent worldwide, Pakistanis are now better positioned to pursue international careers and enjoy the vibrant culture and lifestyle that Spain offers.
