Students with Disabilities Lead Independence Day Walk, Show Solidarity With Flood Victims

Students with disabilities from the Directorate General of Special Education (DGSE) led a walk and road show to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day and the “Marka-e-Haq” program, using the occasion to not only celebrate national pride but also show support for flood victims across the country. The event highlighted the resilience and determination of participating students, while calling attention to the importance of inclusion and empathy in society.

Organized by the DGSE under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, the celebration brought together students from special education institutes in Islamabad who marched under the national flag, chanting messages of unity and patriotism. The event honored the spirit of independence and the ongoing historical struggle for national integrity, with a special focus on the contributions of Pakistan’s army and the country’s values of sacrifice and courage.

The DGSE, committed to providing education, training, and rehabilitation for children and persons with all disabilities in the Islamabad Capital Territory, aims to empower individuals with disabilities as equal citizens. The Honorable Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, has emphasized the need for inclusion and mainstream representation of children with disabilities in all areas of life.

During the event, DGSE Director General Capt. Asif Iqbal Asif stressed the importance of resilience and collective responsibility. Addressing the attendees, he called the participating students “symbols of strength and determination,” underlining their key role in both celebrating national freedom and reminding the nation of its duty to assist those impacted by recent floods.

Participants paused for a moment of silence and offered prayers for the victims who lost their lives and property in the devastating floods. Messages of hope were shared, encouraging the public to extend compassion and practical support to affected communities. The DGSE reaffirmed its commitment to promoting an inclusive society and ensuring active participation for persons with disabilities in all national events, emphasizing that no child with a disability should be left behind.
